Talk to an Expert

Hobart, Wis. — March 23, 2026 — EMT International has engineered and delivered a custom high-speed finishing solution designed to convert kraft paper rolls into fanfolded void-fill packaging material used throughout the e-commerce industry.

The system processes dual independent webs, marries them into a synchronized stream, and performs cross-perforation at speeds up to 1,300 feet per minute, all within a compact, enclosed footprint optimized for sound control and operator safety.

Designed around specific customer requirements, the solution integrates EMT’s proven web handling, servo motion control, and automation technologies into a streamlined finishing line capable of:

  • Dual-web alignment and integration
  • High-speed cross-perforation
  • Precision fanfolding with servo-controlled registration
  • Inline stacking and case-ready packaging
  • Reduced web path for enhanced process stability
  • Enclosed, insulated housing for noise reduction

“This build demonstrates EMT’s ability to take established technologies and package them into a highly efficient, customer-driven solution,” said Jordan Geurts of EMT International. “We focused on compact design, precise control, and reliable high-speed performance to meet the demands of modern packaging operations.”

The system begins with dual kraft paper rolls fed from a zero-speed splice unwinder. After alignment through independent web edge guides, the material moves into EMT’s cross-perforation section. The webs are then fanfolded using a robust folding head enhanced with EMT servo controls and proprietary motion software to ensure consistent registration and performance at high speeds. The finished product exits the line fully fanfolded, stacked, and ready for immediate casing — delivering a seamless roll-to-box process.

While this system was developed for kraft paper void-fill production, the core architecture is adaptable to a wide range of high-speed fanfolding and perforation applications. EMT’s modular approach allows similar solutions to be configured for different substrates, formats, and end-use requirements across packaging, direct mail, and specialty converting environments.

As e-commerce fulfillment continues to grow, demand for efficient paper-based void-fill solutions has increased. EMT’s custom-engineered finishing platforms provide manufacturers with the speed, precision, and automation needed to compete in high-volume packaging environments.

Hobart, Wis. — February 2, 2026 — EMT International, a leading provider of digital finishing technology for the print and label industries, has announced the availability of its new dynamic perforating solution for heavy substrates, designed to meet the growing demands of high-speed inkjet production and heavier substrate processing.

Building on EMT’s long-standing leadership in dynamic perforating, the new technology expands capability beyond traditional lightweight stocks, enabling high-quality perforation on substrates up to 18-point. As digital print applications continue to evolve — from transactional and direct mail to lottery, fanfold, and specialty formats — printers are increasingly challenged to finish heavier materials without sacrificing quality, registration, or productivity.

“Digital print continues to push into thicker substrates, and finishing has to keep up,” said Jordan Geurts, VP of Technology & Solutions, EMT International. “This new heavy-duty dynamic perforator was engineered specifically to handle that shift, combining EMT’s software, motion control, web handling, and mechanical precision into a solution that delivers clean, repeatable results on heavier stocks.”

The heavy-duty dynamic perforating solution is designed for inline and nearline configurations, making it well-suited for integration with modern inkjet presses as well as existing finishing lines. EMT’s dynamic perforating technology allows perforation patterns to be changed on the fly through software, eliminating the need for mechanical changeovers and enabling greater production flexibility.

Key benefits of EMT’s heavy-duty dynamic perforating solution include:

  • Perforation capability on substrates up to 18-point
  • High-quality, consistent perf results at production speeds up to 1000 fpm
  • Dynamic, software-controlled perforation patterns replace the need for multiple perf cassettes
  • Robust mechanical design optimized for heavier materials
  • Seamless integration with fanfold, roll-to-sheet, and roll-to-roll workflows

The new solution is particularly well-suited for applications such as lottery tickets, fanfold products, transactional documents, direct mail, and specialty digital print pieces where heavier stocks are increasingly common.

“With this release, EMT is extending what’s possible in digital finishing,” added Geurts. “Printers don’t have to compromise between substrate choice and finishing performance. This solution was built to do both.”

Green Bay, WI — January 7, 2026 — EMT International, a leader in digital print finishing solutions, has announced the release of its new Vira Shape Advanced Die-Cut Postcard Sheeting System, designed to help commercial printers and direct mailers meet the growing demand for high-volume, premium-quality postcards.

Engineered as part of EMT’s evolving Vira modular platform, this system enables custom-shaped postcard production across a wide range of run lengths — from short, targeted micro-runs to sustained, high-volume production — all at speeds up to 500 feet per minute, while maintaining flawless registration, precise cut quality, and consistent performance.

“Direct mail is experiencing a resurgence, but mailers are under pressure to deliver more distinctive pieces at higher volumes,” said Mike Herold, Vice President of Sales & Marketing at EMT. “This solution gives our customers the ability to stand out creatively without sacrificing speed, quality, or efficiency.”

The system’s advanced die-cut technology eliminates white edges on full-bleed dark prints, handles substrates up to 20pt (.020”), and supports a wide range of formats including loyalty cards, retail promotional pieces, door hangers, table tents, tear-away designs, and uniquely shaped postcards.

Key capabilities include:

  • Superior quality output with precision die-cutting and tight web register control
  • Custom shapes and perforation patterns for high-impact creative applications
  • Flexible die plates for fast job transitions
  • Simple, compact design built for 24/7 production environments
  • Short web path to minimize waste and improve efficiency
  • Shingle-stream delivery for seamless downstream processing
  • Stacking options available

“This technology opens the door to shapes and designs previously unavailable at this level of throughput, while also giving customers the flexibility to economically produce everything from highly targeted micro-runs to millions of postcards per month,” added Herold.

The system is available now and can be configured with other Vira modules.
